FlyOver Las Vegas

It’s rare to find a genuinely all-age-appropriate attraction on the Las Vegas strip, but the newly-opened FlyOver will undoubtedly fit the bill. Located just down the street from Park MGM and MGM Grand, the attraction combines state-of-the-art tech to bring customers to some of the most iconic, beautiful places on planet Earth. However, the experience starts before visitors take their seats on the flying ride. First, riders walk through the “Endless Hallway,” which simulates a nature walk thanks to lights, sounds, and even smells! Next, before guests take flight, they watch a short, cinematic pre-show that rivals anything you will see at an IMAX theater. The pre-show uses 360-degree wraparound screens – that’s right!

After the pre-show, the ride truly beings. Guests sit in rows in front of a massive, 52-foot spherical screen. The seats can move with six degrees of motion, mimicking a helicopter flight over the most beautiful, but hard-to-reach, places on Earth. However, there are also special effects – like wind, mist, and smells – that perfectly match the helicopter-shot footage on the screen, transporting riders to another place entirely. If it sounds like Disney’s classic Soarin’ ride, it should! After all, FlyOver’s Creative Director Rick Rothschild is not only a former Disney Imagineer, but also was one of the prominent minds behind Soarin’!

Currently, FlyOver has two rides that guests can experience. The first, “The Real Wild West,” takes riders over the western United States, including amazing sights such as Utah’s Zion National Park, Arizona’s Grand Canyon and Monument Valley, California’s Mojave Desert, and, of course, the Las Vegas Strip, among many other locations. The second show, “Iceland,” transports riders to the land of Fire and Ice. From misty waterfalls and magnificent glaciers to menacing volcanoes and mesmerizing towns, the ride “celebrates the unwavering spirit and determination of the Icelandic people.”

However, there’s still much more to experience at FlyOver…

After the ride, guests do not need to leave FlyOver immediately. Like the airport, the new Las Vegas strip attraction is a great place to grab a drink and bite to eat. The bar at FlyOver, the Lost Cactus, features an impressive selection of cocktails and snacks. A few cocktails include the “Durango to Silverton,” a unique take on the Old Fashioned, a Prickly Pear Margarita, a Tipsy Mule, and Cactus Water. For the little ones, the Lost Cactus also has a selection of non-alcoholic mocktails.

Does FlyOver sound like the kind of attraction you want to ride? Well, there’s good news: since it’s open every day of the year from 9 AM to 9 PM, there’s a showtime for everyone! Tickets for FlyOver start at $34 for adults (age 13 and up) and $24 (age 12 and under). However, those with a Nevada ID can enjoy a locals discount of up to 30%, depending on the day. And there are also discounts for buying tickets to both shows! For more information, hear over to FlyOverLasVegas.com.
